This is Module four of showing up as your best self.  Congratulations on getting this far.  I am sure that you have been able to implement some great new habits on your way to showing up everyday as your best self and succeeding in conquering your dreams and ambitions.

This module is going to break down a topic that I have taught before. It is all over the web as being something essential for a balanced, well-rounded day that leads to joy, higher productivity and a feeling of control over what the day brings.  It will literally change the mindset with how you approach your day. Yet, there are so few people that do this on a consistent basis. I am talking about a healthy morning routine that addresses the components that set each day up for the highest level of success right from the start.

Most people have a morning routine of sorts, but is it the best version of a routine that includes healthy components as opposed to just trying to run a functional household?

Picture this - you jump out of bed in the morning, already feeling the pressure of your responsibilities that ensure everyone gets their day off to a successful start.  You get the kids up, feed the dog, begin cooking breakfast, while packing lunches.  Kids are now in the kitchen ready for school, so you get a hot breakfast in front of them, and then run and jump in the shower to get ready for work.  Are you starting to feel the building anxiety from trying to get everything done, while doing nothing for yourself?

I understand that these things all must get accomplished, and this might not be a good visual of your typical morning, but if it doesn’t look like this, it is likely something else that resembles this chaos that has no plan except to survive another morning before running out to conquer the world.

What if there was a way to complete the crazy mornings with a feeling of peace and control as you go into your day with a smile on your face, knowing that you have this?

Believe it or not it is possible, and it is all in how you start your day.

Ok, let’s rewind and rebuild that morning...

It has been scientifically proven that the highest achievers begin each day with a set routine of specific activities that create balance, purpose and a clear direction to the day.  In turn, higher productivity, better work quality, more freedom and a healthier lifestyle have proven to be the result of this new habit change.

Let’s look at what your new morning can be. Let’s be clear, this is your routine to write in regard to the activities you choose to do.

"The key is that you must start each day with intention."

The order that you do these activities and the time that you allow for them is your call. You will figure out what works best for you. I am going to guide you through writing your new morning routine. It’s time to get out those journals and take some great notes.

Here we go…

  1. Start your day with peace.   When you wake up in the morning give yourself the gift of 5 minutes of meditation, prayer or whatever you prefer to center your mind.  I like 5 minutes of meditation that involves some breathing and repeating a mantra that brings calm.  It can be as simple as Brendon Burchard's release meditation, which I have put a link to below, or a word or phrase that you connect with.
  2. Agua is my friend, and lots of it.  Hydrating your body first thing in the morning is the best thing that you can do for your health.  At one point in my life my trainer started our days with 32 oz. of water with ¼ tsp of pink salt and lime juice.  The water, the sodium and the acid give your body some key items that it is craving.  It has been shown that this little morning cocktail, which I dubbed my morning margarita, can increase your immune function, decrease uric acid, fight inflammation and regulate fluid balance in your body and improve digestion.  Who knew this one little change could have such amazing effects?
  3. It’s time to get movin’!  Once you have hydrated this is a great time to wake your body up and work on that mobility. I like 15 minutes of gentle movement such as yoga or stretching. If you are a morning workout person that is fantastic, I just encourage you to add this gentle piece before your workout. You will find your mind relaxing as well as your body feeling more fluid and agile.
  4. Time to wake up your mind.  Twenty minutes of reading something that promotes growth or mental awareness is a fantastic practice.  I prefer to find something that is self help in nature. Picking an area that I am trying to improve upon is key for me.  Another choice is an educational or professional book that again works on expanding my knowledge.  You may find something spiritual is a good fit.  Just pick something and read.
  5. Finally it is time to set up my day.  I spend time with my planner.  Working on many of the items that we discussed in the last module. What activities are going to be imperative to my future growth and are going to get me closer to my weekly goal?  What blocks of time are needed for me to really focus and produce quality products?  This is my time to review any scheduled meetings for the day and go over the outcome that I am hoping for and what those conversations look like so that they end in great success.  I make sure that I write out my tasks for the day on whatever planner I am using.  I commit 20 minutes to this, even though it may take less time than that, but I never want to cut this time short as this truly plants in my mind the control that I have over my day.

As I said earlier you can mix this up however you feel it works best for you.  As with anything, it only proves beneficial if you do it on a consistent basis.

I really challenge you to make this a part of your day for the next 30 days and then evaluate how you are feeling and how your days play out.

"You deserve the right to have an amazing day and a fulfilled life, and I am here to tell you, that it all starts in the morning."

I will see you in the final module and as always it is your choice to Focus Forward.
